The pretty palomino tobiano Fantasia caused many a Pony Penning attendee to think of Misty. She was sometimes referred to as "the Misty one". Fantasia was born in 1988. You can see her run by (behind her dam) at the 1988 swim starting 22:28 in this show: https://youtu.be/UleAmC_r3SU Her dam was the palomino tobiano Dr. Shelly's Little Lady, better known as Skippy. Her sire was the half Arabian bay tobiano Gordo. Fantasia's dam was short and stocky, and she was not, so figuring out her sire was likely the tall leggy Gordo definitely explained why. Her identification number was A28 and you can kind of see it branded on her shoulder in my first photo. She didn't have any foals kept for the herd that we know of. Fantasia died in 2005, her last foal born the year before.
https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/arabian.html Fantasia was a palomino so she was a chestnut with one copy of the cream dilution. She received a copy of chestnut from each parent. Her dam Skippy provided the cream. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/palomino.html She might have carried agouti unseen since her sire was a bay. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/bay.html Both of her parents were tobiano pinto, but she only inherited one copy. We know this because Fantasia had a solid colored foal. Ponies with two copies can only have tobiano pinto foals. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/tobiano.html Fantasia had something suppressing the amount of white tobiano was trying to put on her. That's why she a good bit of white, but not a ton. Some of tobiano's favorite places to put white are the legs, withers, and shoulders. And that's what it did with her but not much else. It's untestable right now but it seems to be genetic based on observation. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/minimaltobiano.html

Isleros is a bay tobiano. Because both of her parents are bay it’s possible she has two copies of black and two copies of the bay causing agouti. Her dam Danny’s Girl Splash appears to be this way based on her foals. However, her sire Effie’s Papa Bear carries recessive chestnut so it’s also possible he passed that along to Isleros. Since only her dam is a tobiano pinto she only carries one copy of tobiano. 50% of her foals will be tobiano. Probable genetic makeup: possible A/A, possible E/E, TO/n The flashy Roberta Raye’s Seaside Dream is an interesting mix. She’s obviously a buckskin so she has one copy of the cream dilution inherited from her sire CLG Tomorrow’s Tidewater Twist. 50% of her foals will be cream dilutes. Since both of her parents are bay based she might have two copies of agouti and black. But her sire has been proven to carry recessive chestnut so he might have passed it on to her. Both of her parents are tobiano pinto and she is too, she might have inherited a copy from both or maybe only one. Her foals will eventually answer that question. She has a blue eye and her dam Sky Dancer has two blue eyes. It appears this is from splashed white, however other white patterns have been tested to be in a relative so it’s possible it’s from something else. But splashed white 1 is the most likely. Probable genetic makeup: possible A/A, possible E/E, possible TO/TO, likely SW1/n, CR/n Marnie is a bay tobiano with a lot of possibilities that we’ll have to wait to figure out. Both of her parents are bay tobianos. Her sire Henry’s Hidalgo carries recessive chestnut and may or may not have passed it on to her. Her dam Marguerite of Chincoteague has only produced bays so it appears she has two copies of agouti. She might have two copies of tobiano since both of her parents are tobiano. Cat tracks are more common on homozygous tobianos and she has some. Her sire appears to have splashed white 1, it runs in his family, and with her big blaze she might have it too. Probable genetic makeup: possible A/A, possible E/E, possible TO/TO, maybe SW1/n Penny Lane is a black tobiano like her sire WH Windy’s Beach Boy. She might have two copies of black since her dam also has black. But both of her parents carry recessive chestnut so one of them could have passed it on to her. Because her dam Anne Bonny’s Little Flower is buckskin it’s possible she inherited a copy of cream and could be a smoky black. Time will tell. Only her sire is tobiano pinto so 50% of her foals will be tobiano since she has one copy. Splashed white is in her sire’s family but visually it doesn’t appear she has it, but splash can be sneaky sometimes. Probable genetic makeup: a/a, possible E/E, TO/n, possible CR/n Rylee’s Way is the third of three full sisters to be kept for the herd, all bay tobianos. Her sire Don Leonard Stud II is chestnut so she has to carry recessive chestnut and she can produce chestnut foals. She may have two copies of agouti as her sire carries it unseen and her dam Winter Moon is a bay. Both of her parents are tobiano so she either inherited two copies or only one. She might have splashed white 1 because her dam has a blue eye, but looking at her I’m not convinced. Probable genetic makeup: possible A/A, E/e, possible TO/TO, maybe SW1/n Billie Jean's Britches is a buckskin tobiano like her dam. She inherited one copy of the cream dilution from her dam. 50% of her foals will be cream dilutes. She might have inherited two copies of agouti or black or tobiano from both of her parents, or maybe not. Since her grandsires are chestnut and palomino it’s possible she carries recessive chestnut. I don’t think she has splashed white, she might have inherited another white pattern as a half sibling by her sire Ajax was test to have others. No way to tell without more data.
Probable genetic makeup: possible A/A, possible E/E, possible TO/TO, CR/n I first saw this stallion 30 years ago and he still remains memorable! Ocean Star, aka Billy Ray Bay. He was a solid bay stallion born sometime in the 1980s and died in 2007. His only white was a left hind cornet. His left ear was notched at some point. Ocean Star's old identification number was S7. His last offspring on Assateague is Pappy's Pony. The late Leah's Bayside Angel, Galadriel, and Jackie's Girl were also his daughters. He's my pony's damsire so I'm happy to own a bit of the old man. Ocean Star was a popular sire back in the day and sired many nice show ponies.
Ocean Star was likely sired by Broken Jaw as he looked quite a bit like him. That would have made Ocean Star half Mustang. That tracks because he towered over the other ponies, much like Broken Jaw did. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/mustang.html He was a bay and had one copy of agouti. He sired some black foals. If he'd had two copies of agouti then he would have only sired bays, no blacks. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/bay.html Ocean Star sired a number of chestnut foals, including the successful eventer Hershey With Almonds. That tells us he carried recessive chestnut. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/chestnut.html |
