Coastal Cowgirl, nicknamed Misty, is a 2024 palomino tobiano daughter of bay tobiano Ajax and buckskin tobiano Badabing. Both of her parents still live on Assateague and she has four full siblings. Misty lives at Rose of Sharon Ranch in Arkansas. Thanks to her owner Colleen for sharing her results!
As a palomino Misty is a chestnut with one copy of the cream dilution. Both of Misty's parents are bay based carrying recessive chestnut. Each of them have a chestnut based parent so that's where chestnut came down to Misty. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/chestnut.html Her test showed that she has two copies of agouti. Since both of her parents are bay based she likely inherited a copy from each. Agouti only affects black, creating bays, so it has nothing to do on a palomino like Misty. So the only way to know she was homozygous for agoui was through testing. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/bay.html Cream dilutes Misty's chestnut to palomino. She only has one copy which comes from her buckskin dam Badabing. Cream then came from her dam's sire Tornado's Prince of Tides. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/palomino.html Both of Misty's parents are tobiano but she tested as TO/n so she only has one copy. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/tobiano.html She's a very light shade of palomino. There may be a genetic component to shade but right now we don't know. https://www.thecolorfulchincoteague.com/colorshade.html
