White 34, or W34, is one of a group of over 30 white or pinto patterns. They were grouped together because they're found on the same gene, called KIT. Visit the Sabino page learn about the others patterns in the W group.
W34 generally causes white markings like a blaze, star, snip, or socks. Or no markings at all as it may act as a white booster when combined with other white patterns. The W34 white markings don't have any specific characteristics that make it stand out. They look like the typical face and leg markings found on any pony.
There's a test available for White 34 and it was found in Chincoteagues via test. The first Chincoteague W34 was found in is Assateague's Spirited Lady. It's present in the feral Assateague herd as she is from it. White 34 is dominant and cannot skip generations, but it's likely you can not tell a pony has it by looking at it. W34 was found initially in Arabians and has since been found in many breeds.
