Mixed pinto is when a pony has more than one pinto pattern. It is often very difficult to determine which and how many pinto patterns a horse carries. Commonly a tobiano that also has splash and/or sabino is called a tovero. Tobiano+splashes or tobiano+sabinos are very common in Chincoteagues. The patterns can have many different outcomes when interacting to creating more white and others appear to blend into the other pattern due to their minimalness. The expression of multiple pinto patterns can result in unusual looking patterns and markings.
Many of the descriptions below are a guess, with the exception of the blue eyed ponies which are likely a result of splash. Some of the suspected splashes are based upon the appearance of family members or offspring.
