Bend Or spots are dark spots on the color of a pony. The dark spots are not found in the white markings. They are sometimes called grease spots or smuts. The name Bend Or comes from a Thoroughbred stallion of that name who had them.
Bend Or spots are randomly placed on a pony and can appear as a pony ages. They stand out more on light colored horses like palominos. Bend Or spots have been found to run in families so there appears to be some genetic component. There's also the possibility they're somehow related to sooty.
