Minimal tobianos have less white than most tobianos. They are also known as slipped tobianos. Minimal tobianos have a suppression that is reducing the amount of white that tobiano is putting on the pony. Minimal tobianos generally have white on all four legs and some white spots on the body. They frequently have a strip of white crossing the withers.
The white suppression that creates minimal tobianos is likely genetic. It can be seen in several Chincoteague Pony families. It also tends to cause tobiano white markings that look very similar to one another, whether the ponies are related to each other or not.
